
The priority areas of intervention identified in the finance plan put in place by Brennerautobahn AG include the construction of a new building to serve partly as a User Service Centre (C.A.U) and partly to act as headquarters for the motorway police and for the maintenance office. This building will be erected on land owned by the A22 and located to the South of the present Trento Central Toll Office.
The new construction will be in harmony with the existing Head Office buildings of the company in terms of form and design. The underlying idea is for all three facilities (the two existing Head Office buildings and the new building) to be lent the characteristics of an autonomous functional unit.
The site for the new building extends over a total area of 2,265.50 m² and is divided up as follows:

The parking spaces planned for the Western section will be divided into two parallel strips and provide space for a maximum of 60 vehicles. Vehicles may enter the premises via an access road from the motorway exit, and the building will also be will be accessible from via Dos Trento along a connecting road, a one-way street which will also be used by public transport. Pedestrian entrances to the new buildings and connections to the existing facilities will be secured via transition routes featuring low gradients and dedicated external step ramps. The area forming part of the barracks will be protected by anti-climb fencing and automated gates, except for the car park in the West and the road in the North.
Photovoltaic system
A photovoltaic system will be installed in the building. Photovoltaic panels will replace a number of support elements, such as the roof lights and sun protection canopies on the North and East sides. In contrast to the other parts of the building, these two sides are set at an angle which means that they are most exposed to the sun. The system reaches a maximum performance level of 25 kW and is connected to the mains supply. This makes it possible for surplus energy to be fed back into the operator’s network. A meter located at the exit enables this electricity to be refunded to the company.
Control and monitoring system for lighting and sun protection
Apart from the sleeping quarters and the commander’s apartment, lighting for the whole of the building will be controlled via a “Luxmate Professional” video monitoring system which manages the setting of artificial light and the sun protection systems depending on the amount of daylight. The buildings’ lighting system will be equipped with a dynamic light system which is able to alter colour shade based on the amount of natural light entering. The whole system can be controlled either remotely or via general switch panels. Apart from general automatic settings, each office will have its own control units capable of individual adjustment. Emergency lighting will be secured via centrally controlled USB powered lamps which are also monitored using the “Luxmate Professional” system. The control system possesses an interface to the heat regulation system.
Surveillance system and entry control
The new complex will be equipped with a surveillance system and entry control both inside the buildings and in the surrounding piazzas. Access to the individual areas can be controlled both by police guards and via a so-called badge system. Entry from outside can be announced via an intercom located at the guardhouse and by means of a sensor which recognises the presence of vehicles. The video monitoring system includes a surveillance device and a digital video recorder to record from all on-site cameras. Both the access control system and the video recorder are connected to the data network via an interface.
