The ever increasing demand for mobility on motorways increasingly requires that motorway users are provided with prompt, up-to-date information regarding traffic and weather conditions as well as other useful information. In recent years, Autostrada del Brennero SPA has implemented various initiatives in this regard, such as the introduction of variable message signs along the motorway and the erection of illuminated signs at the entrances to toll booths, collaboration with local radio stations for providing reports regarding motorway trafficability, video cameras, direct information at national centres such as CCISS (National Traffic Information Centre), phased traffic lights, etc.
The latest Internet and wireless technologies have opened up many new opportunities and scope in terms of infomobility. These devices are also suitable for the dissemination of additional information and useful services to motorway users and therefore add guarantied value to the traditional range of services provided by the motorway company.
In this context, a pilot system for the interactive presentation of messages and services (traffic conditions, weather conditions, information about the surrounding area, etc.) has been introduced for the users of the A22. An I-point project (stands with touch screens) has been launched in which such stands will be deployed at service stations and the relevant hardware/software infrastructure for the central control of the devices and their content developed
