For the purposes of environmental protection policy and the expedient use of renewable and ecologically sustainable energy the Brenner Motorway has devised for service areas a development plan for the provision of natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
NATURAL GAS
There are natural gas pumps located at the Campogalliano East und Campogalliano West service areas on the A22.
The technical regulatory process for service areas Nogaredo East and West (section Rovereto North - Rovereto South) is already well advanced; the natural gas pumps are expected to be commissioned in April 2012.
Paganella East and West (between the San Michele a/A – Mezzocorona and Trento North tollbooths): delays are being experienced with the connection to the natural gas pipeline. The pumps will be operational 1 year after the connection is made available.
Despite numerous written applications for a connection to the natural gas pipelines, the waiting times are dependent on potential network problems.
Service stations Trens (between Vipiteno and Bressanone) and Plose (between Bressanone and Chiusa) are currently not included in the redevelopment plan due to a lack of natural gas pipelines (in the first instance) and too great a distance (in the second instance).
A connection to the respective natural gas pipelines is planned for the other service areas in the course of the coming year and it is anticipated that the natural gas pumps will be commissioned during 2012.
LPG
LPG pumps are available at the following service areas on the A22: Paganella East and West; Adige West; Povegliano East and West; Campogalliano East and West.
Liquefied petroleum gas pumps will be operational at the Trens, Plose and Laimburg service areas by the end of 2011.
It is also intended that – in addition to the construction of new LPG filling stations (in 2011) – the facilities for the supply of LPG will be repaired and modernised at the service areas where the construction of new natural gas distribution facilities is planned along the A22.
