The Operating Centre - C.O.A.
The Traffic Police is charged with traffic surveillance, traffic safety control as well as the prevention of the crime along the entire national motorway network. The Traffic Police act in line with the principles of providing a high quality service, a reliable, rapid response in order to maintain optimal conditions of safety, the smooth flow of traffic and provide assistance and information for users. The Traffic Police has a special division dedicated to motorways. Motorway patrols are on duty 24 hours per day, with each surveillance team assigned a short stretch to patrol on a frequent basis. These squads are co-ordinated by the C.O.A. (Centro Operativo Autostradale) of Trento. Other patrols are brought in as re-enforcement in emergency situations.
